Homemade Chaat Masala Recipe: A Flavorful Spice Blend

Ingredients:
  • 2 tablespoons dried mango powder (amchur)
  • 1 tablespoon cumin seeds
  • 1 tablespoon coriander seeds
  • 1 tablespoon black salt
  • 1 teaspoon regular salt
  • 1 teaspoon black peppercorns
  • 1 teaspoon fennel seeds
  • 1 teaspoon dried mint leaves
  • 1 teaspoon ginger powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon asafoetida
  • 1/2 teaspoon carom seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried pomegranate seeds (anardana)
Instructions:
  1. Roast the Seeds and Spices:
    • In a dry skillet, roast the cumin seeds, coriander seeds, fennel seeds, and carom seeds on medium heat. Stir them continuously for about 2-3 minutes until they turn slightly brown and release their aroma.
  2. Cool the Roasted Spices:
    • Remove the skillet from heat and let the roasted spices cool down completely.
  3. Grind the Spices:
    • Once cooled, add the roasted spices to a spice grinder or blender. Add the black peppercorns, dried mint leaves, dried pomegranate seeds, and ginger powder to the grinder as well.
    • Grind everything together until you get a fine powder.
  4. Mix Other Ingredients:
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground spice mix with dried mango powder, black salt, regular salt, and asafoetida. Mix everything well to ensure even distribution of all ingredients.
  5. Store the Chaat Masala:
    • Transfer your chaat masala to an airtight container. Store it in a cool, dry place. It can be kept for several months.
Usage:
  • Sprinkle on Snacks: Use it on fruit salads, roasted nuts, potato chips, or popcorn for a zesty kick.
  • Add to Dishes: Enhance the flavor of curries, lentils, or vegetables by adding a pinch during cooking.
